There are generally 3 different methods to straighten teeth. Our cosmetic dentist Dr Aston Parmar has great experience in using all 3 systems. This puts you in a great position to allow this experience to guide you to choosing the best method to suit your needs and lifestyle.
The three different methods of tooth movement are:
- Inman aligners
- Clear aligners
- Fixed braces
We offer complimentary initial cosmetic consultations that will allow you to meet our team. They will talk you through the main concerns you have and find out if you are suitable for Short Term Orthodontics.
The pros and cons of the treatment options will be discussed in detail and all the expectations of you, the patient, will be discussed to make sure you are happy to consent and go ahead with treatment. Costs and estimated treatment times will also be given at this appointment. We will also discuss if Short Term Orthodontics is all that will be needed to achieve your desired smile, or if other work may be needed to achieve your goals. Common examples of this are tooth whitening or cosmetic bonding.
Ultimately moving teeth will create a favourable tooth position however shape and colour may still need further treatments. Once we know that Short Term Orthodontics is right for you we will need a second appointment where consent, photographs, xrays and impressions are taken.
The third appointment will be where we start the active movement phase of the treatment. Usually we will need to see you every 2 to 4 weeks until the movement is completed. We will then move onto the retention phase where we will address keeping the teeth in their new desirable position. The Short Term Orthodontics is now complete, any other cosmetic treatment will then be commenced.

FAQs
Some patients may experience temporary, minor discomfort for the first few days at the beginning of each new stage of movement. This is completely normal for all orthodontic systems and is actually a sign that they are working towards straightening your teeth! As your teeth gradually move, any slight discomfort typically goes after a few days. On rare occasions, patients may resort to a mild painkiller, used in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
Clear aligners are made of flexible plastic — specifically, a patented thermoplastic material.
Any orthodontic treatment can carry risks but the systems we use have had over 20,000 cases provided and so far there have been no reported instances of loss of tooth vitality or root resorption.
